Retirement homes make a residence for old and retired people

Retirement homes are usually multi-residence housing facilities that are specifically made for old people. These homes are especially designed or geared for retirees and seniors who no longer work, or restricted to those over a certain age. The usual pattern of these homes is that each person or couple has an apartment-style room or suite of rooms. These homes have additional facilities like; meals, gathering, recreation, and some form of health or hospice care for their avail.

Retirement homes usually do not have a common area for socializing. These homes have grown in popularity due to the increasing number of older adults living independently. The retirement homes are not free old age homes. The apartments or rooms in the retirement home can be paid for on a rental basis, like an apartment, or can be bought in perpetuity on the same basis as a condominium.

Retirement homes are planned with special facilities that cater to the needs and wants of retirees. However, the level of facilities varies enormously from a retirement community. Retirement villages and retirement communities have separate homes for residents. These homes differ from nursing home in the level of medical care given.
